chateau (2017)

call of duty world at war

"Chateau" is a custom multiplayer map for Call of Duty World at War, and is a remake of the equally named Call of Duty multiplayer map. Creating a remake / remastered version of the 2003 classic level was a great exercise as it helped me analyze its level design, how to interpret the original geometry, and where I could make changes without breaking its core gameplay. A snow version seemed a likely choice.

My work on "Chateau" included:

  • Level Creation:
    • Recreating the base geometry of the original 'Chateau' level using CoDWaWRadiant
    • Full prop- and set dressing
    • Texture creation using Adobe Photoshop and textures.com
    • Lighting pass
    • Collision pass
    • Sound implementation

  • Scripting
    • Game mode implementation
    • AI Bot navigation implementation

about chateau

November 1944. A detachment of the US Army Rangers has been dispatched to the Bavarian Alps. Intelligence reports high ranking Nazi officers staying in a chateau, coordinating their plans to launch an offensive against the US troops in the Belgian Ardennes. The American troops are tasked to take in the chateau, but the Germans are heavily defending this stronghold.
