ACONY Gmbh & co kg | Junior Level Designer

Parabellum is a Free to Play, Massive Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter (MMOFPS) on Epic Games' Unreal 3 engine. With character and weapon customization, every player will have a unique look and experience. With both excellent visuals and challenging gameplay, Parabellum drives to become the number one Free to Play shooter on the market.

As a Level Designer on Parabellum, I was in charge of designing and supporting two multiplayer levels: "Alleys" and "Soho",
both set in New York City.
As this was my first game industry title, so I have learned the many aspects of the work like working with Unreal Engine 3, level design in general, and working with other like-minded professionals.

My work on Parabellum included:

  • Researching timing, tactics and layout structures of competitive titles like Counter Strike
  • Designing two new multiplayer levels from scratch to finish
  • Creating and maintaining (level-) documentation
  • Objective- and gameplay integration
  • Basic set / prop dressing
  • New asset integration

Parabellum multiplayer maps

Alleys - Alleys was my first multiplayer map ever designed in professional capacity. The New York alleyways and backlots proved an interesting location for fast movement and flanking opportunities. I focused heavily on flow and tried to avoid as many dead ends as possible. It's still one of my personal favorite layouts to date.

Soho - A charming area of New York City with angled streets and rooftops to enter. This level featured verticality heavily with an inner courtyard, cafes and residential houses. It was a challenge to keep line of sight in check (for performance) and not lose the sense of sprawling New York City.
